Detail InformationEdit

Since 1979, The Fügen Local Heritage Museum has been situated in one of the town´s oldest buildings. It features folk culture, customs and traditions as well as a section on the Zillertal National Singers who spread “Silent Night, Holy Night” all over the World during the 19th century. The Silent Night Corner documents how the world´s most popular Christmas song came into being and conquered the world and contains both images and original documents. The museum has also dedicated a section to the organ builder Karl Mauracher of Fügen who indirectly contributed to make the beloved Christmas carol accessible to a wider audience.
Since 1998, the ground level of the museum hosts an exhibition about the Zillertal National Singers. The local Rainer family were members of the choir and greatly influenced the group´s rise to worldwide popularity. Queen Victoria of England even proclaimed the choir her “Royal Singers.” On the first floor many interesting topics give an insight into the life of the past as well as into Zillertal’s history. Since 2005 there’s the department “mining” in the basement of the extension building. 600 years of mining history in Fügen and Fügenberg are documented in here.
