This Castle offers a special look back in time where history has left its mark for visitors to explore and enjoy. Schmiding Castle first appeared in historical documents in 1100. Over the centuries, several notable people have owned or been linked with it.
Around 1900, a mission school of the Salesian Fraternity was installed in the Castle. From 1927 to 1939 it housed a high school and in 1940 it served as a stopgap casualty ward of the Wels Hospital. Current owners, Dr. Artmann & Family, have erected lovely Schmiding Birds Sanctuary on the castle grounds.
