The St. Johann Museum is located in the pedestrian zone, just behind the Parish Church.
In the 18th century the building accommodated a seminary and penitentiary for fallen priests. From the 19th century it was home to the elementary school, later the municipality and other communal offices. Since 1994 the edifices has been housing a museum, a gallery, and the St. Johann archives. Next door to it is the former washhouse also dating from the 18th century which is to accommodate an exhibition. The museum in the basement focuses on historic national costumes from Leukental valley, old paintings, etchings, drawings etc. of St. Johann in Tirol, local Heritage Clubs, the history of the deanery church, the former summer residence of the Bishops of Chiemsee, landscape paintings, geology, copper and silver mining, Edmund Angerer (composer of the World famous Child Symphony), history of tourism in St. Johann, history of the St. Johann schools, sights and attractions, nativity scenes from the 19th century, etc.
