“Williamstown is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 8 km south-west from Melbourne’s central business district. Its Local Government Area is the City of Hobsons Bay. At the 2006 Census, Williamstown had a population of 12,733. Williamstown is approximately 15 minutes by car from Melbourne via the West Gate Freeway or a 30-minute train journey from Flinders Street Station.
Ferries from Melbourne’s Southgate Arts & Leisure Precinct take approximately 1 hour. Williamstown is also the main town where the Australian Television Program Blue Heelers was filmed. Aboriginal people occupied the area long before maritime activities shaped the modern historical development of Williamstown. The Yalukit-willam clan of the Kulin nation were the first people to call Hobsons Bay home. They roamed the thin coastal strip from Werribee to Williamstown/Hobsons Bay.”
