Liebburg

Detail InformationEdit

The history of the Liebburg house began with the sale of it, inherited by Emperor Maximilian and sold to the old Tirolean dynasty of Wolkenstein and Rodenegg.
Although the new owners started to renovate Schloß Bruck, they were more interested in the “Burgum” in the middle of the Lienz valley floor. The location and medieval structure of Schloß Bruck didn´t suit the ideas of the Renaissance, which was the reason for leaving it behind and using the Liebburg in the center of town.
The main square in front of the Liebburg is partly medieval, but the houses around it were built after WWI. The old Lienz and works of art are mainly preserved in gothic and baroque style, and there only in religious buildings. For the most part it was the many fires that destroyed the town again and again and which were the reason for modernisation instead of renovation – the main reason for Lienz´ appearance as it is today.
Until today the main square hasn´t lost its charm, thanks to the southern atmosphere in summer which even boasts a few palmtrees.
