The Garberhaus building is closely connected to an important event of Zirl´s history. In 1908 a big fire raged in Zirl. The fire came to a standstill at this large building that is located south of the town center. Still today the wooden wall of the house with its charred boards reminds of the catastrophy.
The house´s name is based on “Garber” (=Gerber: a person that produces leather from animal skin). The house has a double attic that was important for drying animal skins.
