Joinville is a city in Santa Catarina State, in the Southern Region of Brazil. Joinville is Santa Catarina’s largest city. In 2010, Joinville’s metropolitan area is home to over a million residents according to the 2010 census by IBGE. Even though it is considered a German-Brazilian city, its name is French. The city’s former name was Dona Francisca, but was changed to Joinville in 1851.
