Castle Batthyány in Pinkafeld in southern Burgenland was the center of rule and the permanent residence of members of the family Batthyány. The castle was in the 18th and 19 Century, rebuilt. The last major renovation took place in the years 1949 to 1952, so that the original appearance of the castle, which houses a vocational school and is a listed building, is something barely recognizable.
At the castle there is mounted the crest of the family Batthyány: The teeth of the crown symbolize the nine counties, which helps rule has the family. The togetherness of Batthyánys is a pelican sitting in the nest, which symbolizes the bill carves his chest and his boys soaked with the blood flowing out.
