Galta is an ancient temple complex that is located in the Jaipur district of the state of Rajasthan. It has been an important pilgrimage site for many centuries and there are many temples, ponds, pavilions and other structures that can be seen in the place. Galta also has many natural springs and it is an interesting place to visit. The architecture of the site is also excellent and most of the buildings have stood the test of time. The main temple of the complex is built with stone that is pink colored and it is famous for the large colony of monkeys that have made it their home. The place is referred to as Galwar Bagh or Monkey Temple as well. The walls of the temples are painted with exquisite murals and there are many domed structures and carved stone pillars. There are seven tanks that are located in the vicinity and the most famous of the lot is the Galta Kund. The water of the various natural springs and reservoirs are considered to be holy and many visitors take a dip in them, especially during the Makar Sankrati season. The Balaji Temple and the Surya Temple are the other main temples that are located in the area. The place experiences semi arid conditions and it is very similar to that in the city of Jaipur. Summers are extremely hot and conditions are dry for the most part.

Galtaji Temple, dedicated to the Sun God, Lord Surya, is situated on Jaipur-Agra Highway at a distance of 10 kms away from Jaipur near Sisodia Rani ka Bagh. This 18th century magnificent temple which looks like a Haveli was built by Diwan Rao Kriparam, an aristocrat of Sawai Jai Singh II, on the top of the hills with pink sandstone. The walls of the temple is adorned with exquisite paintings and carvings. As the temple complex is always surrounded by lots of monkeys, it is sometimes known as ‘the Monkey Temple’. Galtaji temple is one of the famous holy pilgrim center in India, where Saint Galav is believed to have spent his life and meditated. Temples pavilions and holy kunds ( natural spring and water tanks ) along with lush landscape make it a delightful spot. Among the seven kunds located here, the most holiest and the sacred one is the Galta Kund. It is believed that by taking a dip in this sacred tanks the devotees will get relief from all sins. Every year during the Makar Sankranti ( in mid-January ), large number of people visit the temple to take a bath in the kund. Several other shrines named Sita Ram Temple, three story temple of Balaji ( hanuman temple ) and Krishna Temple are located within the Galtaji temple premises.

By Train : The closest railway head is the Jaipur Station and this is the most important station in the state. Auto rickshaws and taxis are available from the railway station to Galta.
