The shrine is mainly dedicated to Goddess Vaishno Devi, whose idol is housed in a very small cave shrine. Vaishno Devi is yet another name for Goddess Shakthi, more popularly known as Lord Shiva’s consort. The temple is also located at an intimidating altitude of around 5200 feet.

The small town of Katra in Reasi district is located on the foothills of Trikuta Mountains and is the base camp of Vaishno Devi Yatra. The holy shrine of Vaishno Devi, is a 13 km trek from here, located on Trikuta Mountain.

By Air : The nearest air base is at Srinagar (300 km) which is connected to major cities of the country.

By Train : The nearest railway station in Jammu Tawi, which is well connected to many cites in India, especially in the northern part. Trains are cheaper than buses, with basic fares starting around Rs 140 to 150 for destinations in nearby states.

By Bus : Buses to Katra can be taken from the nearby town of Jammu. You can take buses from many main cities to Jammu, from where you can reach Katra. Buses also run from Delhi to Katra, and these will charge around Rs 450 for non air conditioned coaches, Rs 800 for air conditioned sleeper coaches and Rs 900 for Volvo coaches.
