Sajjangarh Fort, Satara is one of the main attractions near Satara city of Maharashtra. Sajjangarh Fort, located at distance of 12 km away from Satara city, was named so to honor Shri Samarth Ramdas Swami who lived here.Sajjangarh Fort, which is about 312 m high and covers an area of about 1525 sq. mt, was earlier known as ‘Aashwalayangad’ and ‘Aaswalgad’.

HistoryEdit

Sajjangad fort was made by Bahamani Emperors in between (1347-1527). After that in (1527-1686) it came under Adilshah dynasty. Mughal king defeated Adilshah and the fort came under Mughal rule. Previously known as Parali, it was renamed to Sajjangad after Shivaji Maharaj requested Shri Ramdas Swami to set up his permanent monastery. It was built by the Shilahar family in between 10th and 11th century AD. Sajjangarh Fort is also famous for the mausoleum of Samarth Ramdas.
