Raman Science Center, a premier institute in Nagpur, is dedicated to the promotion of science and technology. The center honoring the great Indian Scientist and Nobel laureate Dr C V Raman, was founded in 1992. It many scientific activities in and around Nagpur. Raman Science Centre also exhibits a praise worthy collection of items showcasing various aspects of modern science and technology. This encloses a planetarium with astronomy as one of the areas pursued here with much vigor and dynamism.

HistoryEdit

The Raman Science Centre at Nagpur is an interactive science center affiliated with Mumbai’s Nehru Science Centre. The centre was developed to promote a scientific attitude, portray the growth of science and technology and their applications in industry and human welfare, and hold science exhibits. The centre is named after famous Nobel Prize winner Indian physicist Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman. The Raman Science Centre was inaugurated on 7 March 1992 and the planetarium was started on 5 January 1997. The centre is located opposite Gandhi Sagar Lake in the heart of Nagpur.Between April 1, 2006 and March 31, 2007 the centre recorded a visitor count of 307,074. The centre is part of the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM), India which is also the largest network of science centres/museums under a single administrative umbrella in the world. NCSM rates the centre as regional level and it has a total floor area of 4333 sq meters.

Taxi : You can also hire a cab at the airport or railway station which are easily available. Though they are known for not cheating the tourists, it is always advisable to fix the fare before getting in.

Train : To reach Nagpur by train, one can avail the railway station that is located in the major city of Nagpur in Maharashtra. Nagpur is one of the leading commercial centers in Maharashtra. Besides, it is also the second capital of the state. The Nagpur railways well connect the city with other important parts of the country, which include all the four metropolitan cities of India.

Air : Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport is nearly 6 kms from Nagpur Central. Nagpur is well connected to Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Kolkata by Jet Airways, Indian Airlines Kingfisher and Indigo. There are taxis and auto rickshaws that are available from the airport to the city.

Others : Auto rickshaws in order to reach your destination in a convenient & quick manner. Auto rickshaws in Nagpur can not run on meter and the basic fair is Rs 15 for the first two kilometers and 8 INR for every additional kilometer travelled. Auto rickshaws can make your commute easier, and these can be a safe mode of travel during night time. There are no separate night fares.
