The town of Daporijo is located in the Upper Subansiri district of the state of Arunachal Pradesh. The town is home to many different ethnic groups and each has its own culture and traditions. One can witness a mix of these cultures in the town and some of the minority groups are Tagin, Galo, Nah and Hilmiri. The town of Damporijo, which is situated 13 kilometers from the town of Daporijo, is also worth visiting and there is a Christian prayer house that is located here. The place is known for its extreme beauty and there are many picturesque places that are located here. The town is located along the banks of the River Subansiri. The different tribes in the region make it colorful and there are many local festivals that are celebrated here. There are many villages that are located in the region of Daporijo and these make for interesting day trips and one can experience tribal life in its rawest form, in these places. Around the town there are a few caves that can be seen as well and these can also be visited. Some trekking spots can be seen in and around the town of Daporijo.

Daporijo is a census town in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh. It is the headquarters of Upper Subansiri district. Daporijo is located at an elevation of 600 m above sea level. Daporijo is a beautiful destination for Trekking, Rafting and Angling on River Subansiri. Subansiri River is also known as the Gold River and is popular for its gold dust. Tourists can explore the wonderful trekking trails including the unexplored through the forests and hills. The most popular Trekking route is Itanagar- Ziro – Daporijo – Pashighat. A number of tour operators provide assistance through this trail. For the unexplored trails, visitors can take the help of the tribes and those who wish to explore them on their own need to carry sufficient precaution and a map. Rafting is exciting in the river. Local travel agents and guides are available for assistance. However there are not too many agents and hence visitors need to be careful while venturing. Angling is fun and a more relaxed experience. The locals are willing to cook the fresh fish for tourists in their traditional style. Visitors can take a look at the local market and buy some really nice hand woven cloth and bamboo items made by the locals.

By Air : The nearest airport is located at Lilabari and it receives flights from Guwahati and Dibrugarh. These are frequent and this is good option if you are planning to arrive by air. The Lilabari airport is located near the town and one can hire taxis from here to reach the town of Daporijo.

By Train : The closest railway station is located at a place called North Lakhimpur. The station is connected to the town of Tinsukia. Tickets are cheap and this is the most comfortable mode of transport. Ticket rates are around Rs 200 for a second class sleeper ticket.

By BUS : One can reach the town of Daporijo using buses from either Itanagar or Lilabari. Buses are operated by the government and they breakdown very often. They are not very comfortable and often crowded. Ticket prices vary according to the distance travelled.

Si-Donyi festival ; Venue:  Daporijo ; Period :  January ; Details:  The Si-Donyi festival celebrated in the month of January, is the New Year of the Tagin tribe and is celebrated to bring welfare to the tribal community. The festival marks the mass worshipping of ‘Si’ and ‘Donyi’ (the Earth and the Sun Gods) to seek their blessings. People dress in their traditional costumes with lots of beaded ornaments. Traditional dances, get together, prayers and a feast consist the celebration.
Nyokum Festival ; Venue:  Daporijo ; Period :  July ; Details:  This is a festival of the Nyishi tribe celebrated in July. The festival is celebrated to seek the blessings of the God for prosperity. Traditional dance, prayers and traditional food mark the celebration.
