Tonk is a town that is located in the Tonk district of the state of Rajasthan. The town was a princely state until the time of independence and has been ruled by different dynasties. The town of Tonk is situated on the bank of the River Banas. There are many tourist spots that are located in and around the town. One of the most visited places in the town is the Suneri Kothi, also known as the Mansion of Gold. This is a hall that is located in the old palace and it was built by a Nawab called Mohammed Khan. The hall has a magnificent chamber and it has many painted glass works. One can find many enameled mirrors in the halls as well. The overall effect is that of extreme opulence. This hall was used for dancing, music and poetry recitals. There are many ancient havelis that are located in the town of Tonk as well. One can find many mosques in the place as it was under Muslim rule for a long time. The Jama Masjd in the town is one of the biggest mosques in the country. The town library which has many ancient manuscripts is also worth visiting.

By Air : The closest airport is located in the town of Jaipur and this is situated around 82 km from the town. The Jaipur airport is an international airport and it is well connected to many cities in the country. International flights also land at the Jaipur airport on a frequent basis and this is an ideal all round option. Since the distance to the town is only 82 km the best option is to hire a taxi.
