Kasauli is a cantonment and town, located in Solan district in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. This beautiful and mystical hill-station is a tourist’s delight. Its history is as amazing as its scenic beauty. This small hill-town in Himachal Pradesh has a fascinating story behind its origin as well.The history behind the name of the hill town of Kasauli is quite interesting . It is said that the hill town got its name in 17 th century when the Rajput families from Rewari left their homeland and took shelter in a village named Kasul.There is also another story revolving around its name. Some believe that the name Kasauli has been derived from a mountain stream named Kausalya flowing between Kasauli and Jabli. There is another story behind its name. Since the picturesque valley is always filled with the aroma of Kusmawali or Kusmali, which means the flower maiden, the hill town must have got its name from it.

By Air : The closest airport is at Chandigarh, which is 70 km away. Taxis are available to Kasauli from Chandigarh costing about Rs 1,500. Chandigarh is connected to many airports in India, including Delhi, Srinagar, Mumbai and Kolkata. International travelers have to get connection flights from Delhi International airport, which is nearly 300 km away from Kasauli.

By Train : The closest rail head is Kalka, which is about 40 km away from Kasauli. Prepaid taxis costs about Rs 750 from Kalka to Kasauli. Kalka is very well connected with all major cities in India like Amritsar, Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai.

By BUS : State owned transport buses connect Kasauli to many cities in and around Himachal Pradesh. Super fast and super deluxe buses have stop at Kasauli, which are plying from Chandigarh and Delhi to other major cities in the state.

By Other : Tanga – Tangas, or horse drawn carriages, are yet another mode of transport that tourists prefer in the town of Kasauli. Tangas are a cheap mode of transport, and travelling in a Tanga, while not too time effective, can keep the load on your wallet intact.
