Bhimunipatnam is a harbor town that is located in the Vishakapatnam District in the state of Andhra Pradesh. The port town was established during the 16th century when the Dutch settlers intended to make it a beautiful trading center. There are theories that the town originated before the Dutch settlers and that it was ruled by the Pandava Kings. Bhimunipatnam is the place where the Goshthani River empties into the sea. The long stretches of beaches along the port are some of the most beautiful in the region. The beaches are relatively clean as tourism has not had a major impact in the town. Hollanders Green as the name indicates was a Dutch settlement and there are many cemeteries and buildings that can be seen. There are a few English graves that can be seen in the cemetery as well. Bhimunipatnam is home to two old churches. The Red Church that was built during the mid 19th century is one of the most interesting places to visit in the area. The Andhra Baptist Church is another place that travelers can visit in Bhimunipatnam. Bhimunipatnam is famous for being the setting for many regional movies and the entire area is picturesque. As it is located along the coast, Bhimunipatnam experiences extreme humidity. Bhimunipatnam experiences a tropical climate that has hot summers and heavy monsoons. Summer season is not the best time to visit for those who are not used to extreme conditions. Monsoon season brings extensive rainfall and the humidity is also high. Winters are the best time to visit the place as the conditions are much cooler.

Bheemunipatnam, a historic town, was once a tourist’s paradise. Clean beaches and remnants of a hoary past were the major attractions to tourists visiting the town. But, of late, poor maintenance of the beach seems to be putting off tourists. Bheemunipatnam beach is situated at the source of the Gosthani river. This beach is located 24 km away from Vizag. The blue waters of the beach are safe enough for swimmers. This beach is an ideal place for nature lovers and adventurers. The beach is famous for water sports like snorkeling, scuba diving, swimming and water-skiing. This famous beach sees a crowd of tourists every year coming from various parts of the country. It is one of the most beautiful beaches of Vizag.

By Train : The nearest major railhead is the Visakhapatnam railway station. The station lies on the Delhi-Chennai route. Trains from cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru and Bhubaneswar do halt at the station. From the station, taxi and auto rickshaw services are available.

By BUS : The beach is well connected by road. State transport and private buses do ply regularly from Hyderabad, Vijaywada, Warangal and Nellore.
