Bhatkal is a very popular tourist destination located in the Indian state of Karnataka. Bhatkal, also known as Batecala in some Portuguese historical texts is a port town in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka.Bhatkal has been quite a hustling tourist spot mainly because of Murdeshwara Temple, World Renowned Shiva Statue and Beaches. The place has been attracting a wide range of tourists to this place. As far as cuisine is concerned its widely large because of amalgamation of different cultures. The town is home to some magnificent mosques like the Jamia masjid, the Khalifa masjid, the Sultani masjid and the Noor masjid. Some old mosques date back to more than a couple of centuries. The entire Bhatkal beach area with a fishing port and a lighthouse atop a hillock offers a breathtaking view. One can get a panoramic view of the villages from the lighthouse. If one looks around, the Arabian Sea with colourful fishing boats drifting and bobbing is a treat to the eyes. Here, the river Sharabi drains into the Sea. Taking a break, one cago across to the Murdeshwar tourist resort, a popular tourist destination, that is close-by to Bhatkal.

By Air : The nearest airport to Bhatkal is at Goa, and this airport lies around a hundred and eighty seven kilometeRs away (187 km). Flights to all international destinations are available from here and buses will ply regularly between Bhatkal and Goa. Flight charges for international travel will be around Rs 20000.

By Train : The town of Bhatkal has a major railway station and a lot of trains (mainly the ones that come from major cities) halt there. Regular trains will be available from the cities of New Delhi, Margao, Jaipur and Kochi. Train charges will normally range between Rs 150 to 350.

By BUS : There are many buses that ply regularly to the town of Bhatkal and some of these ply to Bhatkal from major cities and town around the state. Buses to Bhatkal will be available from the towns of Bangalore, Pune, Hyderabad, Mangalore, Hubli, Mumbai, Bidar and Gulbarga. Bus charges may range anywhere between Rs 200 to 500. Buses are a good option for last minute travel to Bhatkal, and tickets can be easily booked on the spot as no prior booking is required. Maari Habba festival ; Venue:  Bhatkal ; Period :  July-Aug ; Details:  Bhatkal’s famous Mari festival ended peacefully here with a special Pooja of Mari Amma idol being offered at Mari Kamba temple in Bhatkal. On this occasion large number of devotees from in and around Bhatkal participated in the rally and immersed the Mari Amma idol in the sea. It may be noted that, on the occasion of Mari habba, Hindus seek medication from the Godess Mari from all their illness, offer special poojas and sacrifice roosters.
