A provincial capital of Cambodia, Siem Reap is the gateway to the Angkor Archaeological Park which is World famous for the ruins of the Khmer temple of Angkot Wat. The beautiful backwaters of this region also attract tourists to this ancient capital of Angkor. Located in Siem Reap, the famous temples of Angkor were built between the 9th and 13th centuries. These temples identified as the ruins of the once important city of the Khmer empire, these temples can be visited only during the day because of the geographical placement and the position of the Sun. Other significant temple worth visiting in Siem Reap is the Banteay Srey or Banteay Samre.
The Old French Quarter portraying Chinese architecture, the Old Market’s craft shops, rice paddy fields, the Tonle Sap lake bird sanctuary and the silk farm are some of the delightful places of Siem Reap invariably frequented by the visitors. Tourists can explore these places on foot or by hiring a motodop which is a motorbike taxi. Today the scenario of Siem Reap is quite different as it is very well developed and having international hotels, capable professional guides and a well organized transportation facility as well.
