Museum of Macau is located in the famous 16th century Monte Fortress in the heart of the city. Opened to the public on April 18th of 1998, the main purpose of building this museum is to prove that different nationalities have been living together harmoniously in Macau from the past century. Moreover, the museum presents the rich history of Macau and depicts the country’s traditions, custom and culture to its visitors.
All the exhibits are distributed in the three-floors of the building. The first and second floors are located below the ground level of the fort. The exhibits are classified according to the floors with Original Civilization located in the 1st floor, Popular Art and Traditional Culture in the 2nd floor and Contemporary Macau in the 3rd floor.
