Nueva Helvecia (“New Helvetia”) is a city in the southeastern part of Colonia Department of Uruguay. It is located on the intersection of Routes 52 and 53, about 120 kilometres (75 mi) west of Montevideo and 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) north of Colonia Valdense. Its status was elevated to “City” category on 11 December 1952 by decree Ley No. 11.892.
