The ancient city of Istaravshan has an interesting history that dates back to more than 2500 years. One of the oldest and most beautiful cities in Tajikistan, Istaravshan once served as a significant stop en route the Silk Road. As-of-now, the museums, mosques, trade and craft center and ancient ruins dotted across the city are some of its major tourist attractions. The artisans of this wonderful city are famous throughout the World for producing wide variety of handicrafts and wares.
Istaravshan even served as the dwelling place of several aristocratic people who built numerous palaces and structures. The old buildings scattered around the city boasts of unique architecture and are richly decorated with wood carvings and paintings. Bundzhikat is one of those buildings renowned for housing a painting that depicts a she-wolf feeding two babies. Besides this, other important attractions in Istaravshan include the ancient citadel, castle and gate.
