Balasore District, also known as Baleswar District or Baleshwar District, is an administrative district of Odisha state in eastern India. The lingua franca is Oriya. The coastal district is known for its beautiful mountains and famous temples. Balasore is a place of scenic beauty and a major tourist attraction, also because of its historical monuments and temples. Known for the Chandipur Beach. The town was an early settlement of the British and is a relatively old town. The place is a scenic location and there are a few places of interest that are situated here as well. Some of the attractions include temples, historical places, tombs and a few hills. The place is known for its cuisine and one must try the food while travelling to the town. You can visit the tomb of a Sufi saint that is located in the town and many pilgrims can be seen here. Some of the temples that are located in the region are Gopinatha Temple, Biranchinarayan Temple and Lagula Narasimha Dev. There are many myths that surround the Khirachora Gopinatha Temple. Other places of interest include Asta Duraga and Budhar Chandi. The Chandipur Beach is known for its resorts and the shallow seas attract many visitors. It is located at a distance of 30 kilometers from the town of Balasore. Panchalingeshwar and Chillka Lake are other places of tourist interest.

Balasore district was part of the ancient Kalinga which later became a territory of Toshala or Utkal, till the death of Mukunda Dev. Then the Marathas occupied this part of Odisha and it became a part of the dominion of the Bhonsle Maratha Rajas of Nagpur. Balasore is situeated to the north of Odisha located in the south eastern part of the India surround with (States) West Bengal to the north, Andhra pradesh to the south, Chhattisgrah & Jharkhand west and the Bay of Bengal in her east. The lingua franca is Oriya. Chandipur-on-sea is a sea resort famous for its mile long shallow beaches. Chandipur on sea is one of the shallowest sea beaches in the world. It is a unique beach, the tide comes to the shore only four times a day, at determined intervals. Among other tourist attractions is the 18th century kshirochora-gopinath temple, famous for its mythological story, how the temple was built there. Birthplace of linguist and novelist Fakir Mohan Senapati, considered to be the saviour of modern Oriya language and an eminent freedom fighter. Also birthplace of famous Oriya poet Kabibar Radhanath Roy. The coastal district is known for its beautiful mountains and famous temples. Balasore is a place of scenic beauty and a major tourist attraction, also because of its historical monuments and temples. There are a few hill ranges in the region too.

By Air : The closest airport is situated in the city of Bhubaneswar and it is well connected to many cities across the country. There are a few airline operators that offer services from cities such as Chennai, Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore to the airport. Up on arrival, you can opt for a taxi from the airport to reach the town of Balasore. They cost around Rs 7 per kilometer for the trip. The drive time is around 4 hours.

By Train : The town of Balasore has excellent rail connectivity and one reach the place from several cities such as Chennai, Howrah, Bangalore, New Delhi, Kolkata, Puri, Bhubaneswar and Jaipur amongst others. Since trains are comfortable and quick, many travelers opt for this. You might have to book ticket well in advance. Second class ticket prices from Delhi to Balasore cost around Rs 500.

By BUS : Buses are available from some nearby cities and towns and these are also a good option. Rates differ according to the distance travelled.

By Taxi : The town of Balasore is situated at a distance of around 207 kilometers from the city of Bhubaneswar and one can reach the place easily using taxis.

By Other : You can hire a taxi or auto rickshaw from the station to reach the town center.
