Pin Valley National Park situated in the valley of Spiti is the only national park in the state of Himachal Pradesh, which is positioned in a cold desert area. Sprawled over an area of 675 sq km, this park was founded in 1987. The park is home to around 20 species of animals and birds and is known for protecting the endangered snow leopard. Some of the animals commonly found here include the pika, bharal, chukor, weasel, golden eagle, ibex, Himalayan chough, marten, red fox, snow cock, griffon, bearded vulture, and raven. The flora of the Pin Valley consist of around 400 plants species along with herbs and spices. Herbs found here have rich medicinal properties which can be used for preparing medicines.

Pin Valley National Park is a national park located in Spiti region of the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. The park is located in the cold desert area of the Spiti valley, in the Lahul and Spiti district within the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. It was declared a park in 1987. Declared a National Park in 1987, Pin Valley is located in the cold desert region of the Spiti valley. With its snow laden unexplored higher reaches and slopes, the Park forms a natural habitat for a number of endangered animals including the Snow Leopard and Siberian Ibex. Spreading south of Dhankar Gompa near the Tibetan border, the park marks the border between the formerly separate districts of Lahaul and Spiti. The elevation of the park ranges from about 3,500 metres (11,500 ft) near Ka Dogri to more than 6,000 metres (20,000 ft) at its highest point.

How to ReachEdit

Taxi : This place is well connected by road.and easily accessible by taxi.There are also taxis available from the railway station. They generally charge around Rs 1200 from the railway station to the town center.

BUS : Kullu has regular bus connections from Delhi, Shimla, Pathankot, Palampur and Ambala. The main bus stand is in the Sarvari Bazaar. Buses stopping at Dhalpur. State owned bus services of Himachal Pradesh Road Transport Corporation are available from Kullu connecting with the nearest cities. Kullu is connected to Delhi (570 km), Chandigarh (267 km), Pathankot (285 km) and Shimla (270 km) by tourist deluxe buses of Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation. These deluxe buses cost about Rs 4 per km.

Train : The closest narrow gauge railhead is at Jogindernagar, 95 kms from Kullu. The nearest railhead with best train connections is at Chandigarh, 272 kms away. From there, regular buses connect to Kullu.There are also taxis available from the railway station. They generally charge around Rs 1200 from the railway station to the town center.

Air : The closest airport to Kullu is Bhuntar airport which is situated at a distance of around 10 km from the heart of the city, Kullu. Bhuntar is currently not operational therefore Chandigarh is the airport for Kullu Vally.After getting down at the Air port, take an auto-rickshaw, bus or hire a taxi to reach the destination within the city.

Others : There are auto rickshaws in some places where the roads are not steep. There are no separate night fares. The best option is to hire private cabs from stands that are available at the street corners. Most of them charge per km and the usual rates are Rs 6 per km.  Horse drawn carriages are a popular mode of transport in the town. They are cheap and can be found along the main roads.
