The Kentucky repository of Art and Craft, set in metropolis, Kentucky’s “Museum Row” within the West Main District of downtown, may be a non-profit-making organization based in 1981 to continue the art and craft heritage of Kentucky through the support and education of craft artists and education of the general public. The repository is supported partially by the Fund for the humanities and Kentucky Arts Council, a state agency of the Commerce cupboard.
Founded in 1981 by Phyllis St. George Brown, then initial girl of Kentucky and former Miss America, the Kentucky repository of Art and Craft was began to build interest in Kentucky’s wealthy craft and art resources. With the assistance of Virgin Mary Shands, the beginning of the middle began with ease. In 1984 the organization moved into the lower level of a West Main Street building to own extra space for things sort of a store. Once the moved occurred the west district of downtown metropolis had low occupancy rates for the buildings. The situation of many museums just like the Kentucky repository of Art and Craft helped revitalize this space of downtown.
