The John F. Kennedy Memorial Bridge may be a seven-lane, single-deck span that carries interstate sixty five across the river, connecting Louisville, KY and Jeffersonville, Indiana. The most span is 700 feet (213 m) (two spans) and also the bridge includes a total length of two,498 feet (761 m). There area unit four lanes that go northward and 3 lanes that carry south traffic.
Designed by the Louisville engineering firm of Hazelet & Erdal, construction began within the spring of 1961 and completed in late 1963 at a price of $10 million. The span had nevertheless to be named once U.S. President John F. Kennedy was dead on November twenty two, 1963. Four days later, KY Governor Bert T. Combs declared that there was wide agreement that the bridge would be named in Kennedy’s honor. The bridge was dedicated and opened for northward traffic on Dec six, and south traffic began flowing many weeks later.
