Actors Theatre of Louisville could be a liberal arts theater placed in downtown Louisville, Kentucky. It absolutely was based in 1964 by Louisville native Ewel Cornett, native producer Richard Block and actor Ken Jenkins of Scrubs fame, and was selected the “State Theater of Kentucky” in 1974. It’s run as a non-profit organization. The building that became Actors Theatre was a merging of 2 buildings: the 1837 James H. Dakin-designed previous Bank of Louisville (which could be a National Historic Landmark) and therefore the Myers-Thompson show Building.
In March 1969, Jon Jory was appointed the theatre’s new manufacturing director. His Louisville debut was in Gregorian calendar month 1969 with Dylan Thomas’ beneath Milk Wood. Former administrator, Alexander Speer, whose tenure of forty years began in 1965, became Jory’s partner and LED the theater’s administration and operations till his retirement within the spring of 2006.
