The city itself was based in 1871 once the Houston and Texas Central Railway came to the realm. It in all probability took its name from native business leader Jabez Deming Giddings, United Nations agency was instrumental in transportation the railway to the realm. He had come back to the realm from Pennsylvania in 1838 to assert the land bounty of his brother Giles A. Giddings, killed at the Battle of San Jacinto. Another theory is that town was named when Jabez’s brother politico Giddings. The land wherever town of Giddings currently stands was a part of the land granted to Stephen F. {austin|Austin|capital of Texas|state capital} in 1821 for a colony in Spanish Texas, and later became a part of the Oscar Robertson Colony. Giddings is that the county courthouse of Lee County, Texas, us placed on the intersection of U.S. Highways seventy seven and 290, fifty five miles (89km) east of state capital. Its population was five,105 at the 2000 census. The city’s shibboleth is “Giddings Texas: expertise town Hospitality”.
