Towanda could be a borough in and therefore the seat of pressman County, Pennsylvania, us, sixty six miles (106km) northwest of Wilkes Barre, on the river. The name suggests that “burial ground” within the American-Indian language. Settled in 1784 and incorporated in 1828, Towanda was once acknowledged primarily for its industrial interests, including flour, planing and silk mills, a factory and workshop, dye works, and manufactories of talking machines, cut glass, toys and piece of furniture. The population in 1900 was four,663 and, in 1910, 4,281. The population was three,024 at the 2000 census. In step with the us authority, the borough incorporates a total space of one.1square miles (2.8Square kilometers).
