The first settlers within the space that will eventually become Neodesha established a mercantile establishment in Oct 1867 to the northwest of the current city. They were allowed by the Osage Indians to ascertain a mercantile establishment on the Osage Diminished Reserve as a result of the closest mercantile establishment was over thirty miles away.
