The Battle of the Tongue watercourse, typically brought up because the Connor Battle, was the key engagement of the Powder watercourse Expedition of 1865, directed against the Southern Cheyenne, Arapaho and Lakota Buffalo Indian. It destroyed for a time the Arapaho capability to raid the town path and land mail routes.Major General Grenville M. Dodge assumed command of the Department of the Missouri in 1865. Dodge ordered a retributory campaign to suppress the Southern Cheyenne, Sioux, and Arapaho Indians UN agency had been conducting raids against land mail routes. He gave plan of action command of the expedition to general officer patron saint Edward Connor, commander of the District of American state.
General Connor had veteran very little fighting till late August 1865, once he discovered five hundred Arapaho Indians below chiefs Black Bear and medication Man[1] on the Tongue watercourse in north central Wyoming. Connor had solely four hundred men at his immediate disposal however rapt against the Indians withal. The troopers captured eighteen ladies and youngsters, however eventually discharged them. To boot, the troopers killed over one,000 Indian horses and ponies.
