West Bend may be a town in Kossuth and town Counties within the U.S. state of Iowa. The population was 834 at the 2000 census. West Bend is that the web site of the grot of the Redemption, a series of 9 contiguous grottos occupying a full area, created of minerals, petrifications, and valuable gems. The grot of the Redemption is that the inspiration and life work of metallic element. Paul Dobberstein (1872-1954), a Catholic priest WHO settled in West Bend around 1902. For a decade he gathered rocks and precious and semi-precious stones from round the World starting construction in 1912. For ensuing forty two years, Fr. Dobberstein created many involved rock settings that kind the Grotto’s walls and ceilings, evoking a religious expertise. Matt Szerensce, a church member, and Fr. Louis Greving, ensuing Catholic pastor in West Bend, worked side-by-side with metallic element. Dobberstein and furthered the work of metallic element. Dobberstein when his death in 1954. though the grot was technically finished within the late 1980, the grot may be a current work with restorations and repairs created yearly and there ar still some statutes that require to be purchased to finish sure scenes throughout the grot. The grot is non-profit and depends exclusively on donations for its maintenance and repair work.
