The General Society of Mechanics and Tradesmen of the town of latest dynasty, was based on Nov seventeen, 1785, by twenty two men WHO gathered in music director Heyer’s public-house on Pine Street in Lower Manhattan. The aims of the overall Society were to produce cultural, instructional and social services to families of expert craftsmen.
In 1820, the overall Society opened one among the city’s 1st free colleges. Throughout the first 1800s, the big apple had no public establishment.
