Knight Library is that the main facility of the University of Oregon’s (UO) library system. It’s situated on the university’s field in Eugene, Oregon, us. The library style is emblematic of the design of the university’s older buildings, and it is a hub of student activity. As of 2008 it’s a set of over three million volumes.
Three major renovations of the library, in 1950, 1966, and 1994, have unbroken the building up-to-date and it’s a daily hub of learning and analysis to school Of Oregon’s over twenty,000 students. 1994’s $27 million renovation additional 132,000 sq. Feet (12,000 m²) to the building. The project was partly funded by Phil Knight, UO alumna and founding father of athletic shoe company Greek deity. The library was renamed Knight Library in honor of Knight’s family.
The original 1937 section of the library, designed by Lawrence, contains inscriptions on the super of every of seven giant windows on the most (north) facade. These read, “Philosophia,” “Historia,” “Religio,” “Ars,” “Natura,” “Societas,” and “Litterae,” and area unit meant to represent (in Latin), the seven major disciplines contained within the library’s assortment.
