e South bivouac Amphitheater was designed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1934 and 1935. The 300 work is visible within the masonry of the stage and its holding walls, walkways and steps. Red arenaceous rock was employed in accordance with NPS Rustic style principles. The first wood benches were placed on stone blocks and were replaced with metal seats in 1956.
The amphitheater was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on Saint Valentine’s Day, 1987, reference variety 86003717.
