St. Anthony may be a city on the northern reaches of the good Northern solid ground of Newfoundland and geographical area. Its population in two006 was 2,476, compared with two,730 in 2001.
The history of European settlement of St. Anthony reaches back to the first sixteenth century, once French and Basque fishermen used the well-sheltered harbour as a seasonal fishing station. By the time person Jacques Cartier came upon the settlement in 1534, he reportable it had been named St. Anthony Haven.
More folks began inbound within the mid-19th century. By 1857, a census found seventy one inhabitants in ten families. By 1874, the population rose to a hundred and ten, and by 1891, it was 139.
