A train of six lined wagons, every drawn by 2 yoke of oxen, started the long trek to require Free State settlers to Kansas. They were supported by the Kansas Society of metropolis that was headed by E. D. Holton. They met General James H. Lane with 2 hundred men at Cornhusker State town, Nebraska, a meeting for gratis State men. They followed the Jim Lane Road into Kansas roughly thirty miles. They came to deer Creek, 2½ miles west of Holton, wherever they cut timbers to create a bridge, crossed it and created camp wherever Central faculty currently stands. They likable the 2 streams (later named Banner Creek and deer Creek) and also the pleasant grass-covered hills, in order that they set to remain.
