It became the primary town incorporated in Indian Territory on Jan four, 1896. As of the census of 2000, there have been seven,669 people, 2,928 households, and 2,111 families residing within the town. The population density was one,101.4 individuals per area unit (425.4/km²). There have been three,152 housing units at a mean density of 452.7 per area unit (174.9/km²).
