Oberlin could be a town in and therefore the county courthouse of Decatur County, Kansas, u. S.. Northern Cheyenne fleeing from Indian Territory to their homes within the north, the Northern Cheyenne Exodus, attacked homesteaders close to Oberlin, then a little hamlet. The Last Indian Raid in Kansas area within the Decatur County depository and a monument within the city land site close to the graves of the victims commemorate those depredations. Oberlin was platted as a city.
