The Temple Court Building and Annex, at five Beekman Street (corner of capital of the Bahamas street), big apple town, may be a red-brick and earthenware office block within the Queen Anne, neo-Grec, and Renaissance Revival designs. The initial structure was begun in 1881 and finished in 1883, with Associate in Nursing connected annex made in 1889-1890. It had been commissioned and originally in hand by Eugene Kelly (1808-1894), Associate in Nursing Irish migrant World Health Organization achieved wealth as a trade goods distributer and banker. The firm of Silliman and Farnsworth were the architects.
The building’s most noteworthy feature is Associate in Nursing atrium extending through all 9 stories, flat-topped by an outsized pyramidic fanlight. Within the Forties, walls were erected on every floor round the edges of the atrium for fireplace safety reasons, concealing the atrium, railings, and fanlight from public read. These walls have since been removed, revealing the fanlight and atrium with its elaborate iron railings.
On April 2, 1893, between 6:30 and 7:30 am, a hearth started in area 725 of the annex, a typist’s workplace. Nobody was within the building at The Time aside from a resident keeper and his mate World Health Organization lived on the tenth floor of the annex and were ready to escape. Whereas there was no loss of life, the injury to the highest four floors of the annex was severe. Interior pine walls fueled the hearth, however the structure of the building survived. The Temple Court Building and Annex was selected a replacement royal house town landmark on Gregorian calendar month ten, 1998.
