Arch Street Friends Meeting House, in city, Pennsylvania, could be a Friends Meeting House of the spiritual Society of Friends (Quakers). It’s the oldest house of worship of the spiritual Society of Friends (Quakers) still in use within the us. Pennsylvania founder and Quaker Penn given the land to the Society in 1693 as a burying ground for members.
The house of worship was engineered between 1803 and 1805 atop the burial site and so enlarged in 1811, once the west wing was else to accommodate the Women’s Monthly Meeting. The first east wing currently homes exhibits on the lifetime of Penn, and also the west wing is employed for conferences for worship. Notable members have enclosed emancipationist Lucretia feminist. Edward Hicks, the noted painter and first cousin of Elias Hicks, attended the yearly meeting. The meeting house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971 and declared a National Historic Landmark in 2011.
