Thurber home is a literary center for readers and writers placed in Columbus, Ohio, within the historic former home of author, humorist, and New Yorker draftsman cartoonist. Humorist home is dedicated to promoting the literary arts by presenting quality literary programming; increasing the attention of literature as a big art form; promoting excellence in writing; providing support for literary artists; and ceremonial Thurber’s literary and inventive achievements. The home is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as cartoonist House.
Its programs embrace author readings, writing categories for kids, and celebrations of Thurber’s life. Because the solely literary center within the country to supply comprehensive literary programming for adults and kids, humorist home is a singular national treasure.Thurber House opened its doors to the general public in 1984 once in depth renovation to the historic house location in Columbus, Ohio, wherever humorist lived together with his family whereas he was a student at The Ohio State University. Since then, it’s become a repair for readers, writers, and humorist enthusiasts of all ages.
Through its ‘Evenings with Authors’, a series of readings and receptions with nationally-known authors, humorist House has attracted well-known writers like writer, T.C. Boyle, actor Chevalier, and Scott Turow. The annual humorist Prize for yankee Humor has become the nation’s highest designation of the art of humor writing. Its children’s programs, as well as the popular humorist Summer Writing Camp, have nurtured thousands of young writers.
