Ramona could be a city in Washington County, Oklahoma, u. S.. The population was 564 at the 2000 census. The city began as Bon-Ton, however modified its name to common sage in 1899 in honor of the mythical being Hunt Jackson novel of constant name. The city is one in every of four communities that creates up the consolidated Caney depression territorial division. Ramona was an oil town and was also a stop for the state capital railroad. When the oil dried up, there was no alternative business to support common sage, therefore the city began to die out.
Very little business remains within the city, aside from a garage, a bank, a medical clinic, atiny low grocery, and varied alternative tiny businesses. For thirty years the city was beneath the jurisdiction of the Washington County Sheriff’s workplace once the local department disbanded and therefore the Chief of Police was sentenced to jail. Beneath the leadership of the previous politician, the late Roman Ward, the police department was reinstated, the water lines were repaired/replaced, and a Grant was accepted from the Cherokee Nation to repave the streets. The town also supplies gas service to the Wal-Mart distribution center 5 miles north of town.
