Susanville is that the county courthouse of Lassen County, California, us. Susanville is found on the Susan watercourse within the south-central a part of the county, at associate elevation of 4186 feet (1276 m). The population was seventeen,974 at the 2010 census, up from 13,541 at the 2000 census. Susanville, a former work and mining city, is that the web site of the High Desert prison house, California (not to be confused with High Desert prison house, Nevada) and California punitive Center. High Desert prison house, a maximum-security facility, opened in 1995; the California punitive Center, a minimum-medium security facility, opened in 1963. The prisons and their effects on the community were featured on the PBS documentary, jail city, USA. P.O.V.
