Chesaning may be a village in Saginaw County within the U.S. State of Michigan. The village is found within Chesaning Township. The Owosso and Saginaw Navigation Company, organized in 1857 to move merchandise by barge up and down the watercourse, began construction of a canal and lock on the side of the dam for transportation merchandise on the watercourse. The watercourse continuing to be vital for industrial use till the railroad arrived in Owosso. The railroad through Chesaning, inbuilt 1867, was initial surveyed to be engineered roughly 3 miles west of Chesaning, going directly from marksman to St. Charles. Luckily, Wellington Chapman given $18,000, a substantial total at the time, to the railroad to secure a route through Chesaning. The rail was vital to the economy of the village.
