Prospect Park South could be a neighborhood within the ny town borough of borough, inside the community of Flatbush. It’s seagirt by Church Avenue to the north, the metropolis Line (B & letter of the alphabet trains at present) of the ny town Subway to the east, Beverley Road (originally spelled Beverly) to the south, and between Stratford Road and city district Avenue to the west. Prospect Park South is patrolled by the NYPD’s seventieth city district.
In 1899 visionary developer Dean Alvord created Prospect Park South as a community of considerable homes. The catchword he selected for the event was rus in urbe (country within the city). Its location was selected to require advantage of the train service on the borough and metropolis Beach Railroad of the borough mass rapid transit Company (BRT). The line, currently called the BMT metropolis Line, offered categorical and native train service that continues to be to the present day. The trains emerged at artificer Street as AN elevated line and continuing across the Brooklyn Bridge to Manhattan.
The Alvord Mansion at 1522 Albemarle Road was designed by Alvord for his family. Later, it had been purchased by Israel Matz, founding father of the Ex-lax Company. The Alvord Mansion burned down in some 1955 beneath mysterious conditions when its sale by the Matz family to living accommodations developers fell through within the face of community opposition.
