Many of the first settlers were Anabaptist farmers. The Protestant denomination supported Hesston school. Hesston was established as a village, and started to grow because the Missouri Pacific railroad was increasing westward through the state. It had big into a very important shipping and receiving purpose for farmers throughout the region.
