Portage may be a town in and also the county courthouse of Columbia County, Wisconsin, u. S.. The town is a component of the Madison Metropolitan applied mathematics space. Portage was named for the Fox-Wisconsin Waterway, a portage between the Fox River and also the river, that was recognized by Jacques Marquette and Louis Joliet throughout their discovery of a route to the river in 1673. The city’s motto is “Where the North Begins”.
