The U.S. Post workplace and Courthouse may be a historic post workplace and courthouse settled at Charleston in Charleston County, South Carolina. The building continues to function the court for the Charleston Division of the us District Court for the District of South Carolina. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
The building, completed in 1896 within the Renaissance Revival vogue, was designed by Charleston designer character Devereux victimisation grey granite. The planning includes a sq. Tower, serious balustrated balconies, rusticated base and quoins, nice double doors, associate degreed high and broad steps meant to tally an Italian Renaissance palace.
The U.S. Post workplace and Courthouse in Charleston, South Carolina, is found on the southwest corner of Meeting and Broad Streets in a neighborhood called the “Four Corners of Law.” The building may be a testament to the importance of the federal presence within the town. On the northwest corner, a 1792 courthouse represents the role of county government in Charleston. City Hall, in-built 1802 on the northeast corner, symbolizes the presence of local government. Finally, St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, designed between 1752 and 1761, signifies law as a part in community life.
The location of the U.S. Post workplace and Courthouse was the positioning of the gibbet for public executions throughout British rule. Once the Revolutionary War, the property was the placement for a police military headquarters, that was destroyed throughout the devastating 1886 earthquake. Officers determined it a perfect website for a replacement post workplace and courthouse.
