The Cathedral of the stainless Conception may be a Catholic cathedral in Memphis, Tennessee, u. S.. It’s the seat of the jurisdiction of Memphis. Immaculate Conception parish was established by Bishop Thomas Sebastian Byrne of the jurisdiction of Nashville in 1921. It had been the ninth parish in Memphis. Msgr. Dennis J. Tater was the appointed because the parish’s initial pastor. He designed a three-story brick building that served as a mixture church and college. It continues to serve the parish these days as its faculty building. The Sisters of Mercy created up the school’s initial school.
Construction of this house of God was begun in 1927. Richard J. Regan of Regan and Weller Architects was chosen to style the church. The lower sepulture was at first designed and used because the church for 10 years before the higher church was designed. The church was dedicated on Gregorian calendar month thirty one, 1938. The parish’s second pastor, Msgr. Francis D. Grady, had the ornamental style work completed on the church’s interior. Msgr. Merlin F. Pope Paul VI established the jurisdiction of Memphis in Twelfth day, 1971. Immaculate Conception was named because the new diocese’s cathedral.
