Canterbury Castle, additionally called city Castle, was a personal house set in southwest Portland, Beaver State listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Created throughout 1929–1931, the house was designed by Jeter O. Northrop Frye to tally England’s town Castle on the outside and to evoke the art movement styling of Hollywood of the Nineteen Twenties on the inside. The house enclosed castle options like a fosse, lift bridge and turret and attracted paying tourists right away following its completion.
Canterbury Castle, Portland’s solely Nineteen Thirties castle structure, was additional to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. The house underwent major renovation efforts within the 2000s while not completion and was destroyed in 2009 when failing to fulfill municipal safety codes. The razing of town created Piggott’s Castle the city’s solely remaining castle. Town Castle was faraway from the National Register of Historic Places in October 2010. Canterbury Castle was a personal six,000-square-foot (560 m2), three-story house set in city Heights close to Washington Park providing views of downtown Portland. Created from volcanic rock stone from Rocky Butte, the house featured characteristics of a castle like a fosse, lift bridge and a Copper-topped turret.
